Here we are already in the last week of June, and unfortunately no dolls have gone out. My situation is this...In real life, I'm a bus driver. No, that's not the situation, I love my occupation! My difficulty lies in the summer, I don't get a pay check, so needless to say, every dollar that comes in is a precious and limited commodity. This leads me to my dilemma of ...no postage. I just can't take out of my own pocket at this time. Now, that being said, and going on the assumption that the rest of us are not independently wealthy, here's my idea for postage. I have a booth at a farmer's market, I sell my gourds there. What would you think of my making up a little ditty about our project and then placing a few of the dolls in a basket, that you have donated to go to shelter's, to be put up for sale. The money then, that was raised by these purchases could then go towards postage and packaging. I know that these dolls were made with the intent of being in the specific hands of those abused, that is why I am asking for your input. You did not make these lovelies with the intent of them being sold. My next farmer's market is July 10th, I'd really like to promote and generate funds in this way, but not without the support of the group. Please let me know your feelings on this solution.
Thanks again for all your support and hard work.
Smiles to All,
Brenda
Hi Brenda...I just joined your site and think its a wonderful place! And such a great cause...please contact me at Beth26729@aol.com when you get a minute...would love to talk to you about making lil dolls for the purpose of being sold at your market...maybe that way you can save the dolls that you have. I will be away most of today but will answer you tonight. Thanks Beth
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good idea. An even better idea is...for some one who's going to make 12 dolls anyway, how about providing them with and address to mail them out themselves to a needy shelter.
ReplyDeleteWell, its a project to get the dolls into the shelters. If you sell a few for postage, well, no matter. You may find those that read about the project will donate funds for postage. You never know.
ReplyDeleteWhat about if we take our dolls to shelters near us, and send pictures of what we've made? Would that work at all? There is a wonderful shelter in my city, but I want Comfort Doll Project to stay alive, so I'm a little hesitant as to what to do.
ReplyDeletePostage is expensive, both to people sending them to you, and for you sending them to the final destination.
Thank you for your helpful feedback. First. The Comfort Doll Project is alive and well. With that said. I think the idea of people donating to their local shelters is a wonderful idea. The goal is to get these dolls into the hands that need them. So, Zippiknits, if you'd like to do that, feel free, use the Comfort Doll Project and e-mail us the results. I will, in the next couple of days, post a page that can be copied and sent out with your donation.
ReplyDeleteBeth- how wonderful you are! Beth has decided to make some dolls specifically for selling for postage. If you get a chance to see what she does check out her blog at:

(I have to admit, I didn't know what a "cab" was.) She has given me wonderful ideas and it is all exciting!
Lastly, we received a $20.00 donation...so...some of the lovilies will be headed out!!!
Once again, I am in awe of all the support, and openess of everyone eager to share ideas and time.
Smiles to All,
Brenda
Brenda, I will do that then.
ReplyDeleteI'll make sure to take pictures of my "goddess dolls" and "kittahs" and send them to you. I work slowly and steadily because of time limits but I know where they need to go.
Thank you for keeping Comfort Dolls alive. Many Blessings.
